This month we are concentrating on the UN’s Goal 15 – Life on Earth.
- Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managed forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
Did you know that since 1979 wildlife populations have declined by 68% on average. Human activities are causing more species to be destroyed, as we destroy their homes. We are using their habitats for agriculture, houses, mining, roads etc, leaving them nowhere to live or feed. We need to do something about it as our survival depends on it, as well as theirs.
As you already know, if you have read some of our previous newsletters, we have already started to plant trees and offset our carbon using Ecologi.
Ecologi plant trees for us and have other projects around the world to offset our carbon. We specifically plant 2 trees a month in the UK as well as many others around the world, many of which are in Madagascar – Hello King Julian!! (Madagascar film reference for anyone who hasn’t seen it – so good!!)
We have planted 497 trees and offset 32.83t of CO2
I have also invested in Ecologi personally to help their mission of being better for the planet and grow their reach.
We offset CO2 every year by helping to:
- Protect and restore forests in Papua New Guinea
- Protect old rainforests in Peru
- Onshore wind generation in Taiwan
- Produce renewable wind energy in Bulgaria
- Preserve Amazon rainforest in Brazil
- Protect lowland peat forest in Indonesia as well as many other projects
We also plant trees in many different areas including:
- Reforestation projects in Mozambique
- Mangrove planting in Madagascar
- Planting responsibly in Nicaragua
- Forest restoration in Kenya
- Planting forest gardens in Uganda
- Reforestation projects in the UK
Next time we will talk about the next goal on our list: Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production . . .
