I am absolutely gobsmacked!!
I have just been speaking to somebody who is trying to get a mortgage through a big high street bank at the moment and they have just spent over 2 hours on the phone to one of the advisers trying to get it sorted, and they are not finished yet.
This person had just had what he described as a test by the bank man at the end of the phone. He was asked what he thought inflation was going to do in the future!! Now, this person isn’t involved in finance and doesn’t know anything about inflation, but that didn’t stop the bank man from quizzing him on what he thought would happen to inflation in the future and how this was going to affect his mortgage payments.
Then he was asked exactly when he was going to marry his girlfriend, how much it was going to cost for the wedding and who was going to pay for it. It’s none of your business!!
What has happened to the world that in order to get a simple mortgage for a house that you can easily afford to repay the mortgage on, you are given the Spanish Inquisition?! Talk about putting people off dealing with their finances when they feel like they are being interrogated, with their previous answers being used against them for when they answer the next question.
I understand the need to make sure that people can afford their mortgages so that we don’t have another financial mess like the last one, but making people feel uncomfortable and taking up so much of their precious time is completely unnecessary.
OK, rant over, but it just makes me so cross that there are so many people out there who should be looking at their money and making it give them the future that they want and yet obstacles are continuously being put in their way.
